EAGAN, Minn. — The general consensus about the Vikings heading into 2025 free agency was the team likely would address the interiors of the offensive and defensive lines, as well as cornerback.

As the New League Year begins (3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 12), enter veterans Ryan Kelly and Will Fries on the offensive line, Jonathan Allen, who was added Tuesday, on the defensive line, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers and defensive back Tavierre Thomas.

Minnesota announced it agreed to terms with Kelly and Fries, the former Colts center and right guard, Rodgers and Thomas Wednesday to open 2025 free agency. Here's a breakdown on Kelly, Fries, Rodgers, and Thomas.

Ryan Kelly

Kelly adds the pedigree of a former first-round pick (18th overall in 2016 by Indianapolis) and a four-time Pro Bowler who has started all 121 regular-season games he's played.

The signing of Kelly reunites him with former Colts GM Ryan Grigson, who is now the Vikings Senior Vice President of Player Personnel, as well as his college teammate at Alabama (Allen) and keeps him connected with Fries, his teammate for the past four seasons.

Kelly, who will turn 32 in May, played high school football at Lakota West (where he teamed with former Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks) in West Chester, Ohio, before enrolling at Alabama. He started for three years and teamed with Allen to help the Crimson Tide win the 2015 CFP National Championship. Kelly was on campus beginning in 2011 for the first of two other consecutive titles won by Alabama, and he closed by not allowing a sack in either of his final two seasons.

He became the first center ever drafted by Indianapolis in the first round of an NFL Draft and was one of two centers in the NFL in 2016 to start all 16 regular-season games — a franchise first by a Colt.

Kelly played 100 percent of offensive snaps in 95 games with the Colts, including in Week 9 against Minnesota last season before landing on Injured Reserve because of a knee injury that sidelined him until Week 16.

He has only had 16 penalties accepted over the course of 7,703 career snaps.

Will Fries

A year after a former Texans two-step with the signings of Jonathan Greenard and Blake Cashman to open 2024 free agency, the Vikings double dipped from the same division.

Fries, who will turn 27 on April 4, started 31 of 41 regular-season games for the Colts after joining Indianapolis as a seventh-round pick in 2021.

He played high school football at Cranford (New Jersey), winning a state title before attending Penn State. From 2016-20, Fries started 42 of 48 games for the Nittany Lions.

After appearing in three games as a rookie, Fries started nine of 16 games played in 2022 and all 17 in 2023. He was continuing that role at right guard in 2024 when he suffered a broken tibia in Week 5 at Jacksonville. The injury required season-ending surgery.

Isaiah Rodgers

Rodgers is getting fresh ink again.

The former Eagles cornerback got a tattoo of the Super Bowl LIX logo, the score and his No. 34 last month to celebrate what became his final game with Philadelphia.

Now, he's ready to sign a multiyear deal with Minnesota. The signing of Rodgers accompanies a new three-year deal for Byron Murphy, Jr., as veteran cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore, Shaq Griffin and Fabian Moreau become free agents.

Rodgers started three of 15 regular-season games (and played in all four postseason contests) in his lone season with Philadelphia. During the season, he recorded 24 tackles, four passes defensed and a forced fumble on 328 defensive snaps.

The 27-year-old also played 150 special teams snaps, returning eight kickoffs a total of 225 yards (28.1 avg.) and making two tackles and recording one blocked kick.

The native of Tampa, Florida, recorded six tackles, three passes defensed, one fumble recovery he returned 40 yards and four kickoff returns for 103 yards (25.8 avg.) in the playoffs.

It was a solid rebound for Rodgers, who missed all of 2023 for a violation of the league's gambling policy while he was still with Indianapolis. The Colts drafted him out of Massachusetts in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rodgers played 45 games for the Colts from 2020-22, recording career highs of 49 tackles and seven passes defensed in 2021, along with his three career interceptions. Rodgers returned 61 kickoffs a total of 1,645 yards (27.0 avg.), highlighted by a 101-yard touchdown, while with Indy.

Rodgers has looked to his cousin, 12-year NFL Legend Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (2008-19), for mentorship.

Tavierre Thomas

Thomas joins Minnesota ahead of his eighth NFL season, having first entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Cleveland in 2018.

He played in 45 games for the Browns from 2018-20 before spending three seasons with the Texans (2021-23) and appearing in 36 games. Thomas played in all 17 games for the Buccaneers in 2024.

The Detroit native, who turned 29 on Tuesday, has totaled 239 tackles, six tackles for loss, two QB hits, two interceptions, six passes defensed, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a sack in 98 career games (22 starts).

Thomas teamed with Greenard and Cashman in Houston and overlapped with Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in Cleveland in 2020. He has played 1,668 defensive snaps and 1,869 special teams snaps through his first seven seasons, including 388 in football's third phase for Tampa Bay in 2024.
