Vikings 2025 Free Agency Tracker

Free Agency Tracker-2560x1400

Welcome to the Vikings 2025 Free Agency Tracker page.

This will serve as a one-stop shop for the team's official transactions. It will include updates and analysis for each move, including pertinent links to additional stories and/or content. We'll also update the tracker with re-signings, extensions and the signing of exclusive rights deals for returning Vikings players.

The above will start flooding in when the NFL's 2025 league year begins March 12.

First things first, in alphabetical order, here's a snapshot of Minnesota's 20-plus pending free agents:

View photos of Vikings RB Cam Akers during the 2024 season.

RB Cam Akers (acquired from Houston on Oct. 15)

2024 stats: 64 carries, 297 yards rushing (4.6 avg.), 10 catches, 52 yards receiving, 3 total TDs

The skinny: In-season trades for Akers in back-to-back years confirms that the Super Bowl-winning former Rams running back is liked by Minnesota's coaching staff. In 12 games, Akers averaged 4.7 yards per touch, trumping by a yard his production in five games with Houston in 2024 – comparable, as well, to his Vikings tour in 2023, when he logged 4.2 yards in six games. Those outputs may hatch a third stint.

DL Jonathan Bullard

2024 stats: 41 tackles (21 solo), 7 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 3 passes defended

The skinny: In his third season with the Vikings and ninth overall, Bullard was an every-game starter for the first time in his career. He handled a 51% snapshare on defense (a dip from 57% in 2023 but still his second-highest allotment) and forcefully set edges and preoccupied blockers for the NFL's No. 2 ranked run-stopping unit. The well-respected and well-traveled veteran (five teams so far) turns 32 next season.

S Camryn Bynum

2024 stats: 96 tackles (54 solo), 3 interceptions, 10 passes defended, 2 fumble recoveries

The skinny: Bynum, aka "Beezy," lived his "Moooovie" mantra to the extreme last season, complementing a bevy of takeaways with his trademark great energy and ingenious viral celebrations. A college cornerback and fourth-round pick by Minnesota in 2021, he will turn 27 in July. In his second season in Brian Flores' scheme, Bynum's passer rating against dropped from 98.9 in 2023 to 77.6 in 2024.

QB Sam Darnold

2024 stats: 361-of-545 (66.2%), 4,319 yards passing, 35 TDs, 12 INTs, 102.5 rating, 67 rushes for 212 yards and 1 TD

The skinny: Rated the 1st, 3rd, 9th and 18th best player available this offseason in Top 100 Free Agent lists compiled by CBS Sports, FOX Sports, Pro Football Focus and 33rd Team, respectively, Darnold thrived in Head Coach Kevin O'Connell's QB friendly system, and redirected his career trajectory. A candidate for the franchise tag, other options include re-signing at a certain price point or Darnold hitting free agency.

C/G Dan Feeney

2024 stats: N/A

The skinny: Feeney, a 57-game starter for the Chargers from 2017-20, signed as a backup with the Vikings last spring and was relegated to 40 snaps on special teams. He's approaching his 31st birthday.

CB Stephon Gilmore

2024 stats: 56 tackles (40 solo), 1 interception, 9 passes defended

The skinny: Flores was a big proponent of signing Gilmore in August after Minnesota's cornerback depth was ravaged by the tragic death of rookie Khyree Jackson and Mehki Blackmon's season-ending ACL injury. It was a key acquisition, as Gilmore provided stability and veteran savvy on the perimeter. After 13 seasons and four straight one a new team, the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year will be 35 in September.

CB Shaq Griffin

2024 stats: 41 tackles (33 solo), 2 interceptions, 6 passes defended

The skinny: An injury in training camp possibly stalled Griffin from cementing himself as a starting outside option but didn't prevent him from affecting several clutch sequences, filling in for Gilmore on occasion, playing a great deal against three-receiver formations and enjoying a bounce-back campaign of sorts. Griffin, 30 in July, nabbed multiple picks for the first time since 2020 in his first season as a Viking.

LB Kamu Grugier-Hill

2024 stats: 17 tackles (11 solo), 2 interceptions, 3 passes defended

The skinny: On his sixth team in nine seasons, Grugier-Hill factored into Minnesota's plans primarily as a special-teamer but also flashed with a pair of takeaways — including one ultra-athletic interception at Green Bay — as an injury substitute for Ivan Pace, Jr., in Weeks 3-4. The Vikings more frequently placed safety Joshua Metellus in the box to replace starting linebackers Blake Cashman and Pace when they were hurt as the season progressed. Grugier-Hill, a sixth-round selection in 2016, turns 31 this spring.

S Theo Jackson (restricted free agent)

2024 stats: 11 tackles (11 solo), 6 special teams tackles, 1 interception, 3 passes defended

The skinny: Few players generated a greater buzz in July/August than Jackson, who regularly got his hands on passes in training camp and looked ready to surpass his 2023 workload on defense. Only, one obstacle stood between him and an elevated role: Minnesota's fantastic safety depth. Jackson wasn't featured until Harrison Smith missed the game at Seattle. Ironically, Jackson sealed that win with a pick. Jackson is young (26 until October) and could pose an affordable, promising option to return in 2025.

RB Aaron Jones, Sr.

2024 stats: 255 carries, 1,138 yards rushing (4.5 avg.), 51 catches, 408 yards receiving, 7 total TDs

The skinny: Jones rebuked the narrative that 30-year-old running backs are past their prime by posting a career high in yards on the ground and reeling in his third-most receptions in a single season. Although his top gear pales to yesteryear – Jones recorded a breakaway rush (15-plus yards) on 18.3 percent of his attempts, almost seven points lower than his previous career low done in 2022 – Jones' leadership was a strong addition to the locker room, and his versatility helped when the Vikings asked him to run, receive and pick up blitzes. He stated a desire to run it back with Minnesota as the 2024 season concluded.

QB Daniel Jones

2024 stats: N/A

The skinny: Jones started his sixth NFL season by tossing interceptions to Andrew Van Ginkel and Harrison Smith. Funny enough, Jones finished it on Minnesota's active roster, receiving a promotion from the practice squad for the team's playoff game against the Rams. That move meant he will factor into the compensatory pick formula for 2026 if he signs elsewhere during free agency. Soon to be 28, and with a playoff win under his belt, Jones is a dual-threat who has thrown for 14,582 yards and rushed for 2,179.

View photos of Vikings OLB Pat Jones II during the 2024 season.

OLB Pat Jones II

2024 stats: 39 tackles (19 solo), 9 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 12 QB hits, 1 forced fumble

The skinny: Jones showed off early in 2024 with five sacks through four games, matching his combined total over his first three pro campaigns, then cooled off considerably. Also, he was inactive for three of the final six (Wild Card included) due to injury. He'll be 27 on Sept. 29, with third-round upside still alive.

CB Fabian Moreau

2024 stats: 7 tackles (6 solo), 1 pass defended

The skinny: Moreau mainly worked behind the scenes in his first season with the Vikings, appearing in seven games and playing 30-plus snaps on defense thrice. Flores valued his 100-plus games of experience and professionalism, which readied him for a late surge in assignments. Moreau hasn't played consecutive seasons with the same team since launching his career in Washington (2017-20).

QB Nick Mullens

2024 stats: 2-of-2 passing, 38 yards, 118.7 rating

The skinny: Mullens arose from the bench and converted two third-down throws to Aaron Jones in gotta-have-it moments last season, demonstrating his knowledge of O'Connell's offense. That's the biggest appeal to bringing back Mullens, who turns 30 on March 21, for a fourth go-round in Purple. FYI, Minnesota already signed Brett Rypien to a futures contract and is continuing to develop J.J. McCarthy.

View the best photos of Vikings tight ends T.J. Hockenson, Johnny Mundt, and Josh Oliver from the 2024 season.

TE Johnny Mundt

2024 stats: 27 targets, 19 catches, 142 yards receiving, 2 TDs

The skinny: O'Connell called Mundt the best No. 3 tight end in the NFL – "if there was a category for that" – in 2023. Well, in 2024, he validated his coach's words, hauling in two or more passes in seven contests and capping his crusade with his third game of at least 20 yards receiving in the Wild Card loss. Mundt has played for K.O. since 2020, beginning when the latter was offensive coordinator of the Rams.

CB Byron Murphy, Jr.

2024 stats: 81 tackles (62 solo), 6 TFL, 6 interceptions, 14 passes defended, 1 forced fumble

The skinny: After being the "vet" in the cornerbacks room at 25, Murphy benefited from playing alongside older cornerbacks, namely Gilmore and Griffin, and submitted personal bests in picks and tackles in his age 26 season. Murphy was magnetic in Weeks 4-14, swiping all six of his interceptions, which raised his two-season total with the Vikings to nine, and 11 of his 14 pass breakups. Will he be back for a third Vikings season, or will he join his third NFL team for his seventh pro season?

WR Brandon Powell

2024 stats: 10 targets, 7 catches, 71 yards receiving, 23 punt returns for 164 yards (7.1 avg.)

The skinny: Powell has moved the sticks on 41, or 49.4%, of his 83 career receptions, and approximately 64% of his catches in two seasons playing for Minnesota. His offensive role, however, went from 407 snaps in 2023 to 213 in 2024. Powell, who'll be 30 in September, fielded punts again reliably although unspectacularly. Dating to 2022, the former UDFA is tops among NFL players with 84 returns, but his 7.5-yard average runback ranks 34th out of 35 specialists with at least 30 tries, and his longest is 25.

T David Quessenberry

2024 stats (per PFF): 10 pressures allowed on 77 opportunities, 1 sack against

The skinny: Quessenberry, a swing tackle who overcame non-Hodgkin's lymphoma early in his career and emerged as a 17-game starter for the Titans in 2021, made four starts with the Vikings two seasons ago and played 110 snaps in a pinch off the bench in 2024. Totally irrelevant but too cool not to mention: David (35 on Aug. 24) and younger brothers Paul and Scott have separately played for the Texans.

G Dalton Risner

2024 stats (per PFF): 21 pressures allowed on 370 opportunities, 1 sack against

The skinny: Risner spent a portion of last season rehabbing a back injury and was inserted at right guard, relieving Ed Ingram, for Week 11 at Tennessee. Keeping in mind it was the first time in his career playing on that side of the center (he made 11 starts for Minnesota at left guard in 2023), Risner helped in pass protection until o-line lost its footing in Week 18 at Detroit and the Wild Card against Los Angeles.

T Cam Robinson (acquired from Jacksonville on Oct. 29)

2024 stats (per PFF): 49 pressures allowed on 419 opportunities, 4 sacks against, 11 penalties

The skinny: Minnesota and Robinson became mutual winners of a trade. The former found a way to replace stalwart LT Christian Darrisaw after season-ending ACL and MCL injuries. The latter boosted league interest in him after playing well – for the most part – on a team that vied for the NFC's top seed. The Vikings won nine straight games after Robinson joined the squad. A high second-round pick in 2017, Robinson is young-ish (29 'til October) as the market is assessing him and he is evaluating his options.

WR Trent Sherfield, Sr.

2024 stats: 9 targets, 8 catches, 83 yards receiving, 1 TD, 8 special teams tackles

The skinny: Football is played in three phases, and Sherfield was an ace in the oft-under-discussed one this past year, earning strong consideration in Pro Bowl voting for his finesse as a gunner on the punt coverage unit. The Danville, Illinois native, has carved out a respectable seven-year career with five different teams and expressed an interest in returning to Minnesota as the season concluded.

S Harrison Smith

2024 stats: 87 tackles (56 solo), 1 sack, 3 interceptions, 10 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery

The skinny: Everybody and their mama is awaiting word on Smith's future. Does he retire or return for a 14th season in Purple? The latter would move him into a four-way tie with Grady Alderman (1961-74), Ron Yary (1968-81) and Scott Studwell (1977-90) for the sixth-longest tenure in team history. Thirty-six years old as of Feb. 2, Smith ranks fourth in Vikings annals with 191 career starts behind Jim Marshall (270), Mick Tingelhoff (240) and Carl Eller (201). He's one of six players in the 35-pick, 20-sack club.

View photos of Vikings DL Jerry Tillery from the 2024 season.

DL Jerry Tillery

2024 stats: 28 tackles (13 solo), 1 tackle for loss, 2 passes defended, 1 forced fumble

The skinny: Utilizing Pro Football Reference's AV metric, which assigns a single number to a player's season, Tillery matched his finest yet, replicating the "6" he registered for the Chargers in 2020 and 2021. The 2019 first-round draft pick was a force on early downs, helping anchor the No. 2 run defense.

OLB Jihad Ward

2024 stats: 10 tackles (5 solo), 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 14 QB hits, 1 pass defended, 1 fumble recovery

The skinny: Vikings players and coaches frequently touted Ward as the "vibes" guy in the locker room, indicating his impact off the field was equal if not greater than his contributions as a pocket disruptor. While his 2024 figures don't overwhelm – his 14 quarterback hits ranked third on the team – Ward's ability to play anywhere along the defensive front and act as a quarterback hunter (or spy) was valuable.

P Ryan Wright (restricted free agent)

2024 stats: 56 punts, 46.5 avg., 40.5 net avg., 8.9 touchback percent, 48.2 inside-20 percent

The skinny: Wright fended off Seth Vernon in a punting competition in camp. His inside-the-20 percentage this past season ranked in the top 10, though his average and net average were below the NFL's median. Wright handled holding duties, proving particularly helpful when injuries to long snapper Andrew DePaola and kicker Will Reichard prompted fill-in efforts by Jake McQuaide and Parker Romo.
