EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings have received one compensatory draft pick — the 97th overall selection of the 2025 NFL Draft — as an offset for Kirk Cousins' departure during 2024 free agency.
After six seasons with Minnesota, the quarterback signed a four-year contract with Atlanta to open free agency.
Cousins started 14 games against the Falcons, including Dec. 8 at Minnesota.
The NFL's compensatory pick formula is designed to offset teams' losses in free agency, allocating a maximum of four compensatory selections to any team. Each year, a total of 32 picks are awarded in Rounds 3-7 based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.
In addition to the 32 compensatory selections awarded under the net loss formula, a special compensatory selection was awarded to the 49ers, Rams and Lions under a 2020 amendment to the League's Collective Bargaining Agreement to promote equal employment opportunities and an inclusive workforce within NFL clubs.
The addition of the 97th pick gives Minnesota four selections at this point.
The Vikings have a first (24th), a third (97th) and two fifth-round (139th from Cleveland and 160th) selections.
The draft is scheduled for April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
