The Vikings kept busy during the first wave of free agency.
As of Tuesday morning, they've added eight new names to the roster, re-signed five of their own players and brought back a familiar face in Eric Wilson.

Various platforms are evaluating teams' moves around the league, and analytics site Pro Football Focus is a big fan of Minnesota’s approach — especially the additions of veteran defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and former Colts offensive linemen Ryan Kelly and Will Fries.

PFF, which gave the Vikings an "A+" grade, wrote the following:
Hargrave played just 104 snaps in 2024 before suffering a season-ending injury, but he has been one of the best interior pass-rushers in the NFL since 2020. He produced a PFF pass-rushing grade above 80.0 in every season from 2020 to 2023.
Fries received a PFF grade of 86.9 for his performance last season, although his opportunities were limited by a fractured tibia in Week 5.
This is a significant contract, but considering Fries was one of the best guards in football through the first five weeks of the 2024 season, it's a move that makes sense for Minnesota. His deal will place him just outside the top 10 in average annual value, and based on his trajectory, it wouldn't be surprising to see him grade among the top five guards in 2025.
PFF noted Kelly brings stability at center and said his 77.5 pass-blocking grade since 2023 ranks third among all centers, while his 76.0 overall grade ranks 10th.
Looking at former Commanders defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, the PFF writers opined he might be a bigger risk but still was a smart signing by Minnesota.
Allen became a cap casualty as Washington restructured its roster to align with the new regime's long-term plans. Now 30, his run-defense grades dipped into the 40s in each of the past two seasons, making the move justifiable. However, the Vikings are in a position to take a chance on Allen, hoping he can raise their defensive line's floor as they push forward in what they still see as a winning window after a quarterback change.
Isaiah Rodgers among CBS Sports' list of 'best value signings'
Looking at free agency signings by all 32 NFL teams, CBS Sports' Jared Dubin highlighted 13 he believes to be the “best value” moves.
Making the list was Vikings new cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, who has 60 career games (13 starts) under his belt. Dubin wrote:
The Vikings will have a good bit of turnover in the secondary next season after seemingly half their defensive backs hit free agency. They were going to have to make some changes, and they brought in Rodgers as a low-cost alternative to play across from Byron Murphy, Jr. He's not a shutdown corner, but he's physical and fared decently well when called upon in Philly.
Worth noting, of course, is that Minnesota also brought back safety Harrison Smith for a 14th season in Purple.
Staying in the NFC North division, Dubin praised Detroit's re-signing of defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike, calling the one-year deal worth $5.5 million "a steal" for the Vikings rival.
Onwuzurike was one of the few Lions defenders that stayed healthy for most of last season, and he played well in the middle of the defensive line. He got up to a career-high 61% of the defensive snaps, finished the year with 20 run stops (per Pro Football Focus) and his 11.7% pressure rate, via TruMedia, was actually higher than that of Alim McNeill, his partner on the inside.

Three AFC teams were spotlighted by Dubin for a pair of free agency signings: the Titans (Kevin Zeitler and Xavier Woods), Raiders (S Jeremy Chinn and LB Elandon Roberts) and Dolphins (WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and CB Ifeatu Melifonwu).
And another AFC team on the list, Pittsburgh, is among Minnesota's 2025 road opponents. Dubin said RB Kenneth Gainwell was a "very cheap" but impactful option for the Steelers.
Gainwell is just a really, really solid No. 2 running back. He's great in pass protection and the 2-minute drill, and he excels at creating yards after the catch. He's not the most efficient runner, but that's likely not what Pittsburgh brought him in to do.
