3 Stats That Stood Out: Vikings at Packers

The Vikings lost 38-25 to the Packers in Green Bay on Saturday, falling in too big of a hole for a comeback attempt.

The game wasn't played on the Vikings terms. Minnesota prefers lower-scoring affairs and had defeated Green Bay twice in a row by limiting the Packers to a combined 27 points.

Here are three stats that stood out:

28 points on 33 plays

A week after struggling to get the Colts off the field, the Vikings suffered short touchdown drives by the Packers in the first half.

Green Bay scored touchdowns drives that lasted five, four, three and five plays in the first half to take a 28-13 lead at the break despite only running 33 plays on offense.

Aaron Rodgers had touchdowns of 21 and 20 yards in the first quarter to cap possessions that lasted 2:40 and 1:48.

The Packers added touchdowns after both of the Vikings costly turnovers.

10 in a row

Rodgers opened the game ablaze, completing his first 10 pass attempts for 136 yards.

The Vikings did a good job against the run, limiting Ty Montgomery to nine carries for 23 yards a week after he put up 162, but struggled against the pass for the first time this season.

Green Bay's four touchdown drives in the first half totaled 231 yards, and Rodgers accounted for 216 through the air. He also totaled 13 of the Packers 15 rushing yards on those possessions.

Minnesota had been able to get Rodgers off rhythm in the past two Border Battles, but wasn't able to effectively pressure and sack him until too much damage had been done.

8 for 70

The Vikings were flagged eight times for 70 yards, compared to three infractions for 21 yards against the Packers.

Minnesota suffered 20 penalty yards on one possession early in the second quarter. After Sam Bradford converted a third-and-9 with a 10-yard pass to Jerick McKinnon, Jeremiah Sirles was flagged for unnecessary roughness, moving the ball from the Green Bay 22 to the 37.

Bradford followed with a 21-yard completion to put the ball at the 16, but the Vikings suffered a delay of game penalty on third-and-6 to create a third-and-11.

A 9-yard completion from Bradford to Stefon Diggs followed, but Minnesota settled for a 26-yard field goal that made it a 14-6 game.
