Eagan, Minn. (February, 8 2019) – The Minnesota Vikings have named Marwan Maalouf special teams coordinator and Rick Dennison offensive line coach/run game coordinator. Drew Petzing, who is entering his sixth season with the Vikings in 2019, has been named wide receivers coach after serving as the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2018.
Marwan Maalouf (mar-won mah-LOOF) brings 14 years of NFL and special teams experience to the Vikings staff. Maalouf's previous stops include time with the Miami Dolphins (2013-18), Indianapolis Colts (2012), Baltimore Ravens (2008-11), and the Cleveland Browns (2004-06). Throughout his time in the NFL, Maalouf has been a part of six playoff appearances and one division title.
In each of Maalouf's six seasons in Miami, the Dolphins ranked in the top half of Rick Gosselin's annual NFL special teams rankings, including a 4th-place ranking in 2018. The Dolphins also led the league in blocked punts (eight) and opponent field goal percentage (77.1%) during Maalouf's tenure with the team.
Maalouf also spent five seasons coaching within the collegiate ranks, including stints at his alma mater Baldwin-Wallace (2000, 2007), Fordham (2001), and Rutgers (2002-03).
Collegiately, Maalouf earned three letters while playing guard for Baldwin-Wallace (1997-1999) and was a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection. He was Baldwin-Wallace's Outstanding Offensive Lineman and was elected as a team captain his senior season.
Maalouf is a graduate of Strongsville (Ohio) High School, where he lettered in football and track and field. He and his wife, Dana, have 2 sons, Mason and Morgan.
Rick Dennison joins the Vikings coaching staff with 25 years of NFL coaching experience, with 17 of the last 18 coming as either an offensive coordinator or offensive line coach. During his time within the NFL Dennison has helped coach teams to 12 playoff appearances, five division titles and three Super Bowl victories.
Dennison has also coached 18 different Pro Bowl players over seven different positions, including six offensive linemen. In Dennison's time as an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator, his rushing offenses have averaged 2,038 yards a season (127.4 yards per game) and 4.4 yards per carry while producing 14.3 touchdowns per season.
Prior to joining the Vikings, Dennison served as the offensive line coach/run game coordinator for the New York Jets during the 2018 season. Dennison's NFL coaching experience also includes stints in Buffalo (2017), Baltimore (2014), Houston (2010-2013) and two stints in Denver (1995- 2009, 2015-2016).
As a player Dennison played nine seasons as a linebacker for the Broncos, appearing in 128 games (52 starts) and totaling 514 tackles, 6.5 sacks, four interceptions, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Dennison also played collegiately at Colorado State University, where he earned three varsity letters and was named a second-team Academic All-American as a senior.
Dennison and his wife, Shannon, have three sons, Joseph, Steven and Trey, and twin daughters, Abrynn and Allie. His son, Joseph, is married to Hayley. The couple has two sons, Brodrick John Dennison and Ezeckiel George Dennison.
Drew Petzing enters his sixth season with the Minnesota Vikings and his first as the wide receivers coach. Petzing will return to the position group after previously serving as the assistant wide receivers coach. Throughout his tenure in Minnesota, Petzing has also spent time coaching quarterbacks and running backs.
As Minnesota's assistant quarterbacks coach in 2018, Petzing worked with quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski to help quarterback Kirk Cousins become the first player in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards, 30 touchdowns, 10 or fewer interceptions and complete 70.0% of his passes over the course of a single season.
During Petzing's two seasons (2016-17) as the assistant wide receivers coach, Vikings wide receivers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs combined for 3,995 receiving yards, the most by a pair of NFL teammates during that span. In 2017 Thielen earned his first career Pro Bowl berth as well as Associated Press Second-Team All-Pro honors after recording 1,276 receiving yards on 91 receptions.
Prior to joining the Vikings Petzing spent the 2013 season working in football operations for the Cleveland Browns, focusing primarily on the offensive side of the ball. Petzing also spent six seasons coaching collegiately, with stints at Yale (2012), Boston College (2010-11), Harvard (2009) and Middlebury (2007-08).
Petzing played two seasons as a defensive back for Middlebury College before injuries ended his playing career. He spent his final two years on campus as a volunteer student assistant before graduating in 2009 with a degree in economics.
Petzing and his wife, Louisa, currently reside in Minneapolis.
