Amanda DeKanick returns to the Vikings athletic training staff for the 4rd season in 2021, her 3rd in a full-time capacity. DeKanick is the first full-time female athletic trainer in the history of the Vikings franchise and was the 8th in the NFL at the time of her hiring in spring 2019.
DeKanick worked as an athletic training camp intern for the Vikings during the 2017 season before heading to Grand Forks, where she primarily worked with the University of North Dakota softball team. Aside from orthopedic injuries, she dealt with mental illness cases including disordered eating and sports psychology.
As an undergrad, DeKanick earned his bachelor's in exercise science from Concordia University in St. Paul where she interned with the football team and went on to earn a master's in athletic training from Texas A&M. While in grad school she assisted in the day-to-day athletic training operations with the Aggies football, volleyball, and swim and dive teams. She had the opportunity to volunteer to work NCAA DI Baseball Super Regionals in College Station, TX. She is a member of the industries' professional organization, the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). Amanda is certified in Graston Technique and Fascial Abrasion Technique. DeKanick has also been trained in QPR suicide training.
A Twin Cities native and graduate of Irondale High School, growing up in a sports family, she played softball and hockey. DeKanick lives in West St. Paul her dog, Harley. Her hobbies include going to the lake, running with her dog, and trying out new local coffee shops. She enjoys being outdoors and adventuring to new places.
