Lance Bennett enters his second season with the Minnesota Vikings as a defensive quality control coach and fifth season in the NFL in 2024. He previously served as the assistant to the head coach for defensive coordinator Brian Flores with the Miami Dolphins from 2019-21. Bennett joined the Vikings coaching staff on Feb. 24, 2023.
In his first season with the Vikings in 2023, Bennett helped the Vikings defense improve from 31st overall in 2022 to 16th in 2023, including posting top-eight rankings in both rushing yards per play (fourth) and rushing yards per game (eighth). The Vikings led the NFL in forced fumbles with 21, three more than any other team in the league, and it marked the most forced fumbles in a single season in franchise history since 2007 when the team also forced 21.
Prior to his time with the Dolphins, Bennett spent time with Mater Dei Prep in N.J., holding several roles with the school. He first joined Mater Dei in 2016 as offensive coordinator and was in charge of strength and speed training for the team before transitioning to athletic director in 2017, where he oversaw Mater Dei's athletic and health and wellness programs, developed training and conditioning programs and for all students and coaching hiring, developed coaching standards and oversaw the school's athletic facilities.
Bennett coached at Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School, his alma mater, for eight years before Mater Dei, where he was offensive coordinator and in charge of strength and speed training for the school.
Bennett attended Indiana where he was a wide receiver and punt/kick returner. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was high school teammates with Vikings Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores at Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School.
