We learned earlier in the week that the Vikings aren't limiting their search of WRs to only the big-bodied, wide-wingspan variety. While the Vikings don't have a WR who stands at over 6-2, the coaching and personnel staffs aren't making any particular height a requirement in their quest to put more talented pass catchers around QB Teddy Bridgewater.
"We've talked about that a lot, about speed versus size and size versus speed," Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer said on Thursday. "I really think it comes down to the player. There's big guys that don't get off of bump-and run very good— we see a lot of bump and run. There's smaller guys that have big catch radiuses. I think we're just looking for the most dynamic guy."
So who might that player be? It's tough to know right now, but Saturday's action at the Combine will be the next step to determining that because the WRs will be among the players who conduct their on-field workouts. You can watch those workouts on NFL Network, where Rich Eisen and Mike Mayock will talk you through the action as the players go through drills.
Here are a few names to watch on Saturday based on rankings and opinions from Mayock and fellow NFL Media draft analysts Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah…
Mayock's Top 5
1. Laquon Treadwell
2. Corey Coleman
3. Michael Thomas
4. Josh Doctson
5. Will Fuller
Quote: "I think you're going to see two guys run very fast that are in my top five. I think Will Fuller from Notre Dame will go sub-4.4. I think Corey Coleman from Baylor will go in that 4.4-range and jump 42 or 42 inches."
Jeremiah's Top 50 Prospects
16. Corey Coleman
17. Laquon Treadwell
36. Will Fuller
Quote: "He (Corey Coleman) lacks ideal size but he is extremely explosive and he produces big plays on a regular basis."
Brooks' Top 5
1. Laquon Treadwell
2. Corey Coleman
3. Josh Doctson
4. Tyler Boyd
5. Michael Thomas
Quote: "Laquon Treadwell is a classic WR1 with the size and ball skills to do the dirty work between the hashes."
Charles Davis' Top 50 Prospects
19. Laquon Treadwell
32. Corey Coleman
33. Will Fuller
36. Josh Doctson
43. Michael Thomas
50. Tyler Boyd
Quote: "When I first saw him (Josh Doctson) play two seasons ago, I thought he was a 'jump-ball' type of WR, but I've seen him develop into a good all-around player with excellent ball skills."
