EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings on Monday announced that the contract for offensive lineman Mike Remmers has been terminated, and the team has declined the 2019 option for safety Andrew Sendejo. Both players are free agents.
Additionally, the Vikings tendered one-year contracts to safety Anthony Harris and tackle Rashod Hill, who are both restricted free agents.
The roster moves were made two days before the start of the 2019 NFL calendar.
Harris will receive a second-round tender, and Hill will receive a right-of-first-refusal tender.
NFL.com's Anthony Holzman-Escareno boiled down the 316-page Collective Bargaining Agreement and put together a helpful **glossary** of all the terms that are relevant to free agency.
Restricted free agents are players with three accrued seasons and an expired contract. RFAs are able to sign with another team, but their original team can issue a qualifying offer that comes with a right of first refusal or draft pick compensation.
Holzman-Escareno cited numbers from **Over The Cap.com** to explain the different types of tender.
A second-round tender means a player is set to receive a one-year contract worth the greater of $3.095 million or 110 percent of the player's prior base salary. If another team made an offer to Harris, the Vikings have the option of matching. If another team convinced Harris to sign, the Vikings would pick up a second-round pick.
The right-of-first-refusal tender means a player is set to receive a one-year contract worth the greater of $2.025 million or 110 percent of the player's prior-year base salary. The Vikings would have the right to match any offer sheet signed with another team.
Remmers spent part of 2013 and the 2014 offseason with the Vikings before he was waived and signed with Carolina after a stint on the Rams practice squad. He returned to Minnesota in 2017 and started 11 games at right tackle. Remmers kicked inside to right guard and started all 16 games in 2018.
Sendejo took a winding path to landing with the Vikings that began in the UFL for former Vikings Head Coach Dennis Green. The Texas native then played for the Cowboys in 2010 before arriving in Minnesota in 2011. He played 93 games (58 starts), totaling six interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Sendejo suffered an injury in Week 5 that ended his season.
The Vikings signed Harris as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015.
Harris set career highs in starts (nine), interceptions (three) and tackles (46) in 2018. The Virginia native has appeared in 51 games with 17 starts for the team.
Hill, a veteran entering his fourth NFL season in 2019, appeared in all 16 games and started eight for the Vikings in 2018. The Jacksonville, Florida, native originally joined the NFL with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and was signed from the Jaguars practice squad to the Vikings active roster on Nov. 15, 2016. Hill has appeared in 28 career games with 15 starts, all with the Vikings.
