EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings on Wednesday announced the signings of tackle Sean Hickey and linebacker Jason Whittingham.
Hickey spent parts of 2015 with the Saints and Patriots. He signed with the Jets in January but was waived this spring. Hickey played college football at Syracuse, where he earned three varsity letters.
Hickey was named All-ACC Coaches Third Team in 2014 when he started all 12 games at left tackle. He also started all 13 games at left tackle in 2013. Hickey started four games at left tackle in 2012, then shifted to right tackle the remainder of the season. He is from Murrsville, Pennsylvania.
Whittingham, a rookie, lettered four seasons at Utah. He played all 13 games and made four starts for the Utes in 2015, recording 26 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks last season. He originally signed with Utah in 2009 but did not play until 2012 because of mission work that was followed by a redshirt year in 2011. He is from Provo, Utah.
Seven-year veteran Phil Loadholt announced his **retirement** Monday. Loadholt started 89 regular-season games, which ranks ninth among tackles in team history.
