Timeout with Chad Greenway

It's been hard to miss Chad Greenway's impact with the Vikings over the past decade.

The linebacker ranks fourth in franchise history in tackles (1,332) and was named the Vikings Defensive MVP in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

The 33-year-old, who played in his 150th game with the franchise in Week 11 at Washington, has also given back to the Twin Cities in more ways than one.

Greenway hosts his annual Greenway Girdiron Gallop, an annual 5K run on Father's Day, and his Lead the Way Foundation helps provide educational and entertainment opportunities for critically and chronically ill children and their families across the Upper Midwest.

Greenway's charitable efforts earned him the Vikings Community Man of the Year for the third straight season and fourth overall. He was also honored by the NFL Players Association with the 2015 Byron "Whizzer" White Award for his tireless work in the community.

Greenway, the 17th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft out of the University of Iowa, has gone from learner to leader over the years.

Some may think the South Dakota native should be on Minnesota's hypothetical Mount Rushmore for his decorated 11-year career.

Greenway said he's made two trips to the national monument, which is located in Keystone, South Dakota, fewer than 300 miles from his hometown of Mount Vernon.

"My second time was just last year. I'm not much of a veteran with Mount Rushmore but it was gorgeous out there," Greenway said.

Yet as Greenway and the Vikings close out the regular season today against Chicago, which four current or former teammates would he pick on a Vikings Mount Rushmore?

The linebacker went with five names (even though the real Mount Rushmore has just four).

Which four current or former teammates would be on your Vikings Mount Rushmore?

"(Running back) Adrian (Peterson), for obvious reasons and just because he's had an unbelievable career.

"(Former Vikings defensive end) Jared Allen would be No. 2… just because of the way he played and how he made everybody around him better.

"I'd say probably (former Vikings left guard) Steve Hutchinson … Hutch' just embodied what an NFL guard should be. He was not only very talented but just had a way about him and a demeanor that he carried with him about how you should play the game. He played as well as anybody did for a long time and is certainly a potential Hall of Famer.

"And the fourth is a tough one. Probably (former Vikings defensive tackle) Kevin Williams or (former Vikings cornerback) Antoine Winfield … I always looked up to both of those guys about how they played the game and how they prepared and played on Sunday."

You've been in the league 11 years; has it gone by fast?

"You think about it in totality, it does feel like it has. But then when you put individual things in that position like having children or moving into different houses or people we've met, it seems like 11 years was a lifetime ago. Especially when you think about your kids and how that changed your life."

You recently had your fourth daughter; were there any changes with the addition?

"It's a change. Our older kids are busy with activities and sports and school, but the younger ones, we're just trying to keep them in line. My wife, Jenni, is just a saint. She does a great job of being much more than a mother. She's like a superhero in our house."

Have you always been surrounded by girls?

"I had two older sisters, and I was the youngest. The only boy and all girls. I always say my sisters prepared me the best for life more than anybody."

You were recently honored as the Vikings Community Man of the Year, what does that mean to you even now?

"It's a real honor. We have a ton of guys on our football team that do a ton of great charity work and give back in different ways. Emmanuel (Lamur) does great work back in Haiti, Kyle (Rudolph) does great work with the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.

"There's so many guys that do a lot of work; we try to embody what the Vikings spirit and organization is all about. We try to use the our platform and social media and Twitter followers to get that voice out."

This will be your 10th game played at U.S. Bank Stadium, are you still in awe of the venue when you walk in and see it?

"It's always a pleasure to walk in there. Just to know the work that went into that and to see it come to fruition while I'm still playing has been pretty cool."* *
