EAGAN, Minn. — Sam Darnold and Jordan Addison are up for consideration for awards after strong games at Chicago.
The Vikings quarterback and wide receiver were announced Monday as nominees for the FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week after leading Minnesota to a resilient 30-27 overtime win in the Windy City.
Darnold aced overtime and finished with a season-high 330 yards passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions, and Addison grabbed eight receptions, including a career-long catch of 69 yards on his way to a career-best 162 yards receiving and one score. Addison posted 62 yards after the catch in Week 12.
Darnold had his ninth start this season with a passer rating above 100, at 116.1.
The players are joined on the ballot by Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes and Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa as well as Philadelphia RB Saquon Barkley and Green Bay RB Josh Jacobs. Addison is the only wide receiver.
Mahomes passed for 269 yards and three touchdowns, with a passer rating of 120.2, to stave off Carolina as the Chiefs won in similar fashion as the Vikings, on a game-winning field goal. He also rushed five times for 60 yards, including a key 33-yard scramble on the final possession. Tagovailoa led a blowout of New England, throwing for 317 yards and four touchdowns, good for a 128.9 passer rating.
Jacobs carried 26 times for 106 yards (4.1 avg.), with a long rush of 18, and scored three touchdowns in the 38-10 Packers win over San Francisco. Barkley put an exclamation point on Sunday's slate of games, running wild on Sunday Night Football at the Rams. The Eagles running back totaled 255 rushing and 302 scrimmage yards and had two touchdown trots of 70-plus yards, fueling Philadelphia's 37-20 victory.
Voting continues until 2 p.m. (CT) Wednesday.
