After years of highlight catches that left many speechless, Randy Moss is bringing his voice to ESPN, the network announced Monday.
Moss, a six-time Pro Bowl receiver who revolutionized the deep ball will serve as an analyst on Sunday NFL Countdown and* Monday Night Countdown* from the site of each week's Monday Night Football game. He will also contribute to ESPN's annual Super Bowl week coverage.
Moss played 14 NFL seasons until his retirement in 2012. The former first-round pick of the Vikings made an instant impact on the league with 69 catches for 1,313 yards and a league-leading (and NFL rookie record) 17 touchdowns his first season, averaging 35.6 yards per touchdown. The 1998 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Moss earned an invite to the Pro Bowl and was the lone rookie first-team All-Pro as the Vikings went 15-1 and produced one of the most dominant offenses in league history.
Moss said he's excited to join ESPN, after years of watching the network.
"The team that has been put together has so much football knowledge to share, and I can't wait to get started," Moss said in a press release from ESPN. "I feel very blessed and excited for this opportunity. It's going be a great and fun year."
He totaled 15,292 career yards and 982 receptions, including 156 for touchdowns, was named a member of the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 2000s and one of the 50 Greatest Vikings.
"As a player and now as an analyst, Randy has always been candid, direct and compelling; when he talks about football and other topics, you are instantly drawn to what he has to say," said Seth Markman, senior coordinating producer for ESPN's NFL studio shows. "With Matthew Hasselbeck, Charles Woodson and now Randy joining ESPN this offseason, we have added three dynamic, new voices to our studio team, all of whom are widely known and respected among football fans."
