Summary: Fowler enrolled at Florida early and dropped 25 pounds. He had the second-most tackles (30 total) by a freshman in 2012. He opted to declare for the draft after a junior season in which he was voted the team's Defensive MVP and the MVP of the overall team. Fowler led the Gators with tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and 17 quarterback hurries in 2014. Evaluators believe Fowler can play from multiple spots of the field the way he did in college and rush from a three-point stance or starting a play upright.
Stacking up: Before and after the combine, NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock ranked Fowler as his top edge rusher in the field, opting to create that category out of 4-3 defensive ends and 3-4 outside linebackers. Fowler remained atop Mayock's list in new rankings released April 8. Counterpart Bucky Brooks ranked Fowler as his third-best defensive end, but noted his versatility.
Self-assessment:"I can set the edge and I can come off the edge standing up, so I'd be surprised (if Jacksonville didn't take me third overall), but that's how the draft goes," Fowler said at Florida's Pro Day on April 7. "I'm just happy that I'm getting drafted and I'm getting drafted on the first day."
