Summary:Despite the competitive environment of an ever-deep LSU secondary, Adams impressed and saw game action early on in his collegiate career. As a true freshman in 2014, he received two starting nods and finished the year with 66 tackles, in addition to 10 special teams tackles.
Adams became a full-time starter as a sophomore and received Second-Team All-SEC honors after his four-interception season. A draft profile written for NFL.com credits Adams' physicality, tackling and vision, as well as leadership in the secondary through a "smart-but-aggressive" approach to the game.
NFL.com's Lance Zierlein called Adams an "**interchangeable safety with a sheriff’s mentality**."
"Adams is a physical tone-setter who should thrive near the line of scrimmage or in a robber role," Zierlein said. "[He] should be a commanding presence in the locker room early on, and his do-as-I-do play demeanor could be the catalyst for turning a struggling defense around quickly."
Stacking up: NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock and counterpart Bucky Brooks each rank Adams as the second-best safety behind Ohio State's Malik Hooker in this year's draft class. Chris Burke of Sports Illustrated places Adams as the No. 1 player in his position group.
Runs in the family: Jamal is the son of George Adams, who was a standout running back at Kentucky and was selected 19th overall by the Giants in the 1985 NFL Draft. George played for the Giants from 1985-89 and for the Patriots from 1990-91.
