NFL Power Rankings: Vikings Move Up a Few Spots

The Vikings kept their postseason hopes alive with a 25-16 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday.

Minnesota (7-6) is now two games behind the Detroit Lions (9-4) in the NFC North and in the hunt for an NFC Wild Card spot.

The Vikings will host the Indianapolis Colts (6-7) on Sunday.

Let's see where the experts placed the Vikings on their power rankings lists for Week 15.

Ride the defense. The Vikes put the blueprint for pulling out of their tailspin on display in Jacksonville on Sunday. Get an efficient game from Kyle Rudolph, run just enough to be balanced and lean on the backbone of this team: those 11 dudes, and I mean dudes, on defense. They didn't force any turnovers and even allowed Blake Bortles a few third-down conversions. Yet, you look at the scoreboard and see yet another game where Minnesota didn't give an opponent 20 points.

Did you know? Sam Bradford has completed at least 70 percent of his passes in six straight games, something only Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Joe Montana have done since the AFL-NFL merger. The Vikings are 2-4 in those games. Can Bradford keep it going against the Colts in Week 15?

At least the Vikings can beat the lowly Jaguars. Taking down Jacksonville isn't exactly a huge accomplishment, but a win's a win. Unfortunately, it still won't be enough to get them into the playoffs given that both Detroit and Green Bay are playing much better football.

*It finally clicked in Week 14—perhaps in part because of the quality of the opponent. But Sam Bradford wasn't Captain Checkdown. He nearly doubled Minnesota's plays of 40-plus yards (four) in a single outing (three). *

Everson Griffen did the rest. Minnesota's star pass-rusher sacked Blake Bortles twice and could've notched six or seven sacks the way he got off the line.

*Looking forward: Andrew Luck represents a bit of a jump in quality from Blake Bortles. Mike Zimmer's secondary has to be ready.*

The Vikings have a home game against the Colts in Week 15 and another home game against the Bears in Week 17. They should be a clear favorite in both. If they can win that Week 16 game at Green Bay, 10-6 would likely get them in the playoffs.

They need to win out and get some help to get to the playoffs. And if they get to the playoffs, they'll need a lot of help.
