EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Wednesday signed running back Myles Gaskin to their 53-man roster and placed tight end Nick Muse on Injured Reserve.
Vikings Head Coach Kevin O'Connell said Muse was placed on short-term IR, leaving open the possibility of returning him this season after a minimum of four weeks.
"Want to just highlight Nick Muse, early on in the football game, he did have a small fracture in his hand and he will … he could play, but it would require him to wear a big old cast on his hand and have that thing wrapped, so Nick's value as a blocker and a pass catcher for us on game day, we thought it best to allow that thing to heal over the next three to four weeks," O'Connell said during his media availability Wednesday. "He was placed on short-term IR, which will allow us to get Myles Gaskin as our third [running] back on the roster. And then I'll keep you guys posted about what the plan of attack is at the tight end position as the week goes on."
Gaskin has been on Minnesota's practice squad and elevated for the first two Vikings games of 2024.
He has played two offensive snaps, rushing one time for minus-3 yards, and played nine special teams snaps so far but has yet to return a kickoff this season. Gaskin has played 43 games with 17 starts.
The Vikings also have Aaron Jones, Sr., who was evaluated Sunday but returned to the game, and Ty Chandler, along with fullback C.J. Ham in their backfield.

Muse, a 2022 seventh-round pick, played in both of Minnesota's first two games. He has appeared on three offensive plays and 19 on special teams, cleanly handling San Francisco's onside kick attempt in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 23-17 victory.
Asked about Muse making that play despite the hand injury, O'Connell said, "File that under situational master/play style."
