Sunday, October 9th was our annual Breast Cancer Awareness game. The Minnesota Vikings showed their support of the NFL's "A Crucial Catch Campaign," by raising awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in females with nearly 1 in 8 US women developing the disease in their lifetime.
I look forward to this game every season as all MVC are affected by Breast Cancer in some way. The MVC are proud to show our support by incorporating pink, the official color of Breast Cancer Awareness, into our gameday style. We add a pop of pink to our signature Summer costume and use pink poms throughout the game.
Prior to kickoff we had the opportunity to grace the field with hundreds of Breast Cancer survivors, fighters, and family members of those who battle with the disease. Recording artist Alessia Cara sang her hit song, " Scars to Your Beautiful," while a sea a pink took over the field at U.S. Bank Stadium to form the iconic pink ribbon. I also enjoyed being able to converse with a few Breast Cancer survivors who graciously shared their stories with me.
The Vikings capped off the night by beating the Houston Texans 31-13, bringing the team to an undefeated 5-0 start of the 2016 season. It was a wonderful night for a great cause and a thrilling Vikings victory!
Go Vikes!
