CLEVELAND — The Vikings on Friday signed quarterback Matt Corral.
To make room for Corral, Minnesota placed rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy on Injured Reserve.
Corral entered the NFL as a third-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2022, but the 25-year-old has not appeared in an NFL game. Corral spent time with the Patriots in the 2023 offseason.
Corral played college football at Mississippi from 2018-21, where he completed 614 of 912 passes (67.3 percent) for 8,287 yards and 57 touchdowns against 23 interceptions for an NCAA passer rating of 159.2.
Additionally, Corral rushed 334 times for 1,338 yards and 18 touchdowns. He finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting in 2021.
Most recently, Corral played for the UFL's 2024 Champion Birmingham Stallions, going 3-0 in his starts and completing 36 of 62 passes for 494 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
McCarthy suffered a meniscus injury during Saturday's preseason opener against Las Vegas. He underwent surgery this week and is out for the remainder of the 2024 season.
