EAGAN, Minn. — Matt Cindric is back with the Vikings.
The rookie offensive lineman signed on Wednesday, returning to the club he first joined on April 27 as an undrafted free agent out of California.
Cindric was waived by Minnesota on May 31 when the team signed veteran guard Dalton Risner.
Risner has been recovering from an injury and has not been a full participant in practice for several weeks.
Additionally, Minnesota waived cornerback NaJee Thompson and tackle Jeremy Flax with injury designations.
Thompson joined the Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2023 and made the roster for his work on special teams. He played 195 snaps with the group last season but has been sidelined all training camp.
Flax joined Minnesota in April as an undrafted free agent. He played three snaps on special teams against Las Vegas in the preseason opener and played 16 on offense and five on special teams last week at Cleveland.
Cindric started 34 of 35 games played (17 at center and 17 at right guard) from 2019-23 for Cal after redshirting in 2018. He was voted by teammates as a captain in 2022 and 2023.
A four-time selection of the Pac-12's Fall Academic Honor Roll, Cindric was a two-time semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year and Wuerffel Trophy. He was one of 22 student-athletes named to the AFCA Good Works Team® in 2023.
