Marcus Sherels Named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Marcus Sherels was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his standout game in Chicago.

Sherels returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 7-3 lead against the Bears at Soldier Field. He also returned a punt 12 yards to kick-start the Vikings game-winning drive. Sherels averaged 25.7 yards on three returns and led the Vikings with two special teams tackles.

Sherels is the first punt returner in Vikings history to be named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The touchdown placed the Minnesota native atop the record books in punt returns for touchdowns with three in his five-year career.

Sherels had a 77-yard return against Detroit on Sept. 30, 2012 and an 86-yard punt return for a TD against the New York Giants on Oct. 21, 2013. He has a franchise-record five punt returns of 50 or more yards.

Former Vikings Mewelde Moore (2004-07) and David Palmer (1994-2000) each returned two punts for TDs.
