University of Minnesota Head Coach Jerry Kill will sound the ceremonial Gjallarhorn Sunday before the Vikings host the Jets at TCF Bank Stadium.
Kill, who is in his fourth season with the Gophers, was named the Hayes-Schembechler Big Ten Coach of the Year by the league's head coaches and the Dave McClain Big Ten Coach of the Year members of the media Tuesday. Kill led Minnesota to an 8-4 record and 5-3 conference mark this season.
The victories included a 30-14 win at Michigan for the Little Brown Jug, a 51-14 home victory over Iowa for Floyd of Rosedale, marking the first time Minnesota has claimed both trophies since 1967. The Gophers added a 28-24 victory over the Cornhuskers at Nebraska, the program's first win in Lincoln since 1960.
Kill and the Gophers are awaiting the announcement of their bowl game matchup, which is scheduled to be announced Sunday. It will be the school's third straight postseason appearance.
