Barnes — the 242nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers — was waived by Carolina on Aug. 30 before signing with Miami's practice squad on Sept. 1.
The 6-foot, 186-pound corner from Silsbee, Texas, played at Baylor from 2018-2021, appearing in 41 games and recording 69 tackles (53 solo). He also had 17 passes defensed, 3.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, 1.0 sack and a forced fumble.
Barnes also ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash time at the 2022 NFL Combine, completing the sprint in 4.23 seconds.
Brandel relieved Christian Darrisaw at Buffalo and against Dallas and started the past three games in place of the 2021 first-round pick, but he tore his MCL Sunday in Detroit. Darrisaw was cleared from the concussion protocol last week and is expected to return to the lineup this week.
