Vikings Sign Offensive Lineman Julian Pearl to Practice Squad Among Roster Moves

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Tuesday signed free agent offensive lineman Julian Pearl to their practice squad in a series of roster moves.

Minnesota also announced it has terminated the contract of running back Myles Gaskin and released rookies Dallas Gant, a linebacker, and Marcellus Johnson, a tackle, from the practice squad. The Vikings signed Gaskin to their practice squad.

Gaskin has spent time on Minnesota's 53-man roster and practice squad, appearing in seven games since 2023. Neither Gant nor Johnson has appeared in a game.

Pearl worked out with the team Monday afternoon and bolsters Minnesota's depth in the trenches after starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw suffered season-ending ACL and MCL injuries at Los Angeles. The Vikings utilized their mini bye following Thursday's loss to the Rams to evaluate their best plan of attack.

The 25-year-old Pearl went undrafted in 2024 and signed as a UDFA with the Ravens on May 3. He was part of their final cuts and was not on any team's practice squad before connecting with the Vikings.

Pearl played five seasons at Illinois and was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2022 and 2023 by coaches and media. He made 23 consecutive starts at left tackle to close out his college career, and in 2022 was part of the first Fighting Illini offensive line to be chosen as a Joe Moore Award semifinalist.

Pearl is a Danville, Illinois, native (along with Vikings receiver Trent Sherfield, Sr.) and shuffled between three offensive line spots in college, playing 1,690 snaps at left tackle, 704 at right tackle and 302 at right guard according to Pro Football Focus.

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein projected Pearl as a developmental swing tackle in the NFL if he improved his pass protection and upper-body strength. Zierlein noted Pearl has a long frame, with a 7-foot-1 wingspan and good lateral quickness, but said he needed to work on marrying his feet with his hands.
