EAGAN, Minn. – The Vikings have added a new member to their coaching staff.
Minnesota hired Josh McCown as its quarterbacks coach and named Chris O'Hara as pass game specialist, the team announced Tuesday.
Originally a third-round draft pick by Arizona in 2002, McCown spent 18 seasons in the pros with 12 NFL teams. He started for teams at some stops and served as a reliable reserve for others, playing in 102 career games and making 76 starts. He played the 2010 season for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League.
McCown most recently served as the Panthers quarterbacks coach under former Head Coach Frank Reich. He joins a Vikings staff led by Head Coach Kevin O'Connell and will work under Offensive Coordinator Wes Phillips.
A native of Jacksonville, Texas, McCown helped lead his high school football team to the playoffs and was the East Texas Player of the Year in 1997. He went on to play collegiately at SMU, where he became the first freshman QB to start for the Mustangs since 1989. He ultimately started 25 games for SMU before transferring to Sam Houston State for his senior season. McCown surpassed his three-year SMU touchdown total in just one season with the Bearkats, racking up 3,481 passing yards and 32 touchdowns.
O'Hara will be in his third season with the Vikings and his first as pass game specialist. Prior to joining the Vikings, O'Hara coached for the Rams (2021), Jaguars (2014-16, 2020) and Commanders (2017-19).
