1. Former Wildcat

Davis played college football at the University of Kentucky, where he started 11 of 36 games over three seasons. He totaled 144 tackles, 2.5 sacks, five interceptions, 5.0 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three passes defensed.

After he racked up 102 tackles and three interceptions as a junior in 2020, Davis was named First-Team All-SEC by analytics site Pro Football Focus. He was one of just four SEC players that year to average 10-plus tackles per game.

Davis wore the jersey No. 44 in honor of his grandmother, who tragically passed away at just 44 years old.

2. Impressed on Pro Day

The 2021 NFL Scouting Combine was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Davis garnered an abundance of attention after his pro day performance, where his 42-inch vertical jump would have ranked second among all players at the 2020 combine.

A NASCAR enthusiast, Davis also showed some big-time footspeed. He logged unofficial 40-yard dash times of 4.41 and 4.37 seconds, the latter of which would have ranked fourth among all combine participants.

3. Military kid

Both of Davis' parents served active duty in the U.S. Army, and the family moved around often during his childhood. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, where his parents were stationed at the time.

Davis' father, James Davis, served 21 years in the Army and was deployed multiple times when Jamin and his two siblings were youngsters.

Davis has hosted youth football camps for children of military servicemembers, desiring to demonstrate "that I walked in their same footsteps."

4. From Hawaii to Georgia

The Davis family moved to Hinesville, Georgia, when Jamin was a year old, and he later went on to attend Long County High School in Ludowici, Georgia.

Davis played linebacker and wide receiver at Long County; as a senior, he made an impressive 126 tackles and also caught three touchdown passes.

5. Nicknamed 'Shadow'

Davis' nickname "Shadow" dates back to his younger days, when he and one of his close friends were track-and-field teammates and would race one another.

According to Davis, his friend went by Sonic, as in Sonic the Hedgehog, and he went by Shadow, the video game protagonist's rival.
