The Vikings and the NFL announced the 2016 preseason schedule for Minnesota on Thursday. The four-game slate that the Vikings will play features multiple storylines, including the football opening of U.S. Bank Stadium in an Aug. 28 game that will be televised nationally by FOX, and the first return by Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer to Cincinnati, where he was successful as Bengals defensive coordinator from 2008-13.

Minnesota is 25-17-1 combined in preseasons all-time against the teams it will visit (Cincinnati and Seattle) and host (San Diego and Los Angeles) in 2016.

Below is a summary of how the Vikings have fared against those foes:

Week 1: Minnesota at Cincinnati

Vikings vs. Bengals (2-3)

Home: 2-0; Road: 0-3

First met: 1976; Last met: 1997

Minnesota hosted Cincinnati in 1976 (27-13) and 1989 (17-10).

The Vikings have visited the Bengals in 1977 (a 26-7 loss), 1991 (27-24, OT, L) and 1997 (37-13, L).

Week 2: Minnesota at Seattle

Vikings vs. Seahawks (7-7)

Home: 3-2; Road: 2-5; Neutral: 1-0

First met: 1979; Last met: 2011

Notable: Vikings and Seahawks opened Metrodome (Aug. 21, 1982)

The Vikings are 7-7 in preseason games against the Seahawks, which includes a 28-26 win in the 1997 Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.

Minnesota first hosted Seattle in 1982 and won 7-3 in the first game at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The Vikings also hosted the Seahawks in 1985 (27-10, L), 1993 (23-10, W), 2008 (34-17, L) and 2010 (24-13, W).

The Vikings visited the Seahawks in 1979 (12-9, L), 1983 (19-7, W), 1986 (27-17, L), 1994 (30-19, L), 2004 (23-21, L), 2005 (23-21, W), 2007 (30-13, L) and 2011 (20-7, W).

Week 3: San Diego at Minnesota

Vikings vs. Chargers (10-3-1)

Minnesota first visited San Diego in 1971 (34-7, W). The Vikings also went to Southern California for exhibition games in 1973 (24-16, W), 1975 (14-14, T), 1979 (19-0, L), 1995 (23-19, W) and 2000 (31-7, L).

The Chargers made their first preseason trip to Minnesota in 1972 (24-13, W) and also headed to the Upper Midwest in 1974 (42-0, W), 1980 (21-17, W), 1996 (23-20, W), 1997 (28-22, W), 1998 (42-28, W), 2005 (19-16, W) and 2012 (12-10, L).

Week 4: Los Angeles at Minnesota

Vikings vs. Rams (6-4)

Notable: Teams appeared in the first Vikings game in Minnesota (Sept. 10, 1961)

The Vikings are 6-4 in preseason games against the Rams franchise, including 4-4 when the club has called Los Angeles home and 2-0 in meetings when the Rams were in St. Louis.

The Rams won 21-17 in 1961 in a game that was the Vikings first in Minnesota (Sept. 10) after the fledgling franchise first opened in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The teams met in Portland, Oregon, the following preseason, with L.A. prevailing 33-24.

The Vikings visited the Rams in California in 1963 (27-3, W), 1964 (34-23, W), 1977 (22-17, W), 1981 (34-31, L) and 1989 (24-14, L). Minnesota won its only preseason contest against the Rams in St. Louis 28-7 in 2010.

In addition to 1961, Minnesota hosted Los Angeles in 1966 (24-10, W) and St. Louis (26-6, W) in 1997.
