Greg Joseph Named NFC Special Teams Player for Week 16

EAGAN, Minn. — Greg Joseph has done it again.

Game-winning kick? Yep. NFC Special Teams Player of the Week? That too.

Joseph received the honor for Week 16 after nailing a 61-yard field goal (personal best and franchise record) to seal the Vikings comeback win over the Giants Saturday.

In the 27-24 victory that improved Minnesota to 12-3 on the season, Joseph was perfect on all his kicks. In addition to the 61-yarder, he also made a 40-yard field goal earlier in the game and all three extra point attempts.

Joseph's 61-yard field goal was the longest made in the NFL in Week 16 and the second-longest made this season, behind only Kansas City's Harrison Butker who made a 62-yarder in Week 6.

So far this season, Joseph's five game-winning field goals ties John Kasay (2003 for the Panthers) and Jan Stenerud (1983 for the Packers) for the most game-winning field goals made in a single season in NFL history. Joseph has made 10 field goals of at least 50 yards as a Viking, the third-most in team history behind Blair Walsh (24) and Ryan Longwell (11).

This accolade marks Joseph's second time receiving Special Teams Player of the Week honors, joining Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker as the only kickers to win the award more than once this season.

The Vikings have earned four Special Teams Player of the Week awards this season, the most in team history: Joseph (Weeks 4 and 16), punter Ryan Wright (Week 6) and returner Kene Nwangwu (Week 12). This is the first time in franchise history that three different players have earned the honor in a single season.

Six different players have earned Player of the Week awards this season, tied for the most in team history (1992, 1995). It is the seventh NFC Player of the Week award under Vikings Head Coach Kevin O'Connell, the most by a first-year head coach in franchise history.
