Runners, walkers and strollers will be welcome at Lake Nokomis on Father's Day for the ninth annual Gridiron Gallop 5k and kids run hosted by Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway and his wife Jenni.

The event benefits Minneapolis Parks & Recreation and offers a fun and healthy way for participants to do something with or in memory of their dads.

The Greenways have hosted the event since 2007 and now have three daughters.

"Our 5k was one of our founding events for the **Lead The Way Foundation**," Greenway said. "It was something that was really near and dear to my wife Jenni's heart because she was a runner in college" at Iowa where the couple met.

"We got involved after hearing about Minneapolis Parks & Rec and their need for funds and need for support for so many kids and youth not getting the same opportunities as everybody else," Greenway said. "We want to create those opportunities for the kids, and by having this 5k and raising as much money as we can, we're able to do that."

Pre-event registration is $30 for the 5k and $10 for the kids run. Event-day registration is also available ($35 for the 5k and $15 for the kids run). Click* ***here** to register or for more information. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. June 21 at the Lake Nokomis Main Beach House, 5001 Lake Nokomis Pkwy W, Minneapolis. The kids run is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m., with the 5k following at 9 a.m.

All participants will receive a T-shirt, the opportunity for autographs from players, cheerleaders and Viktor and be eligible for prize drawings.

Greenway said he and Jenni might divvy up stroller duty for their youngest daughter.

"We'll take the kids, so it will be a family affair like it's supposed to be," Greenway said. "It's meant to kind of be a kickoff to Father's Day for everybody, and we'd love for them to come out and have fun."
