The gap between the Vikings selecting 46th, 47th or 48th with their first scheduled pick of the 2017 NFL Draft came down to a coin flip Friday at the NFL Combine.
Minnesota, Indianapolis and Baltimore finished the regular season 8-8. The Vikings and Colts also finished with the same strength of schedule, which was lower than the Ravens, who are scheduled to pick 16th in the first round.
The tie between the Vikings and Colts created the need for the coin flip to determine the order of selection in the first round.
The Vikings won the toss with the Colts and were awarded the 14th pick in the first round. That selection, however, was sent to Philadelphia in the trade to acquire Sam Bradford.
The result of the coin flip and a rule of rotating picks between teams that finish with identical records mean that Minnesota will select 48th in the second round, 79th in the third round, 121st in the fourth round, 160th in the fifth round, 199th in the sixth round and 232nd in the seventh round.
The Vikings also enter the draft with the 86th pick (third round) and the 129th pick (fourth round) via prior trades with Miami.
The 2017 NFL Draft will be held April 27-29 in Philadelphia.
