EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Thursday announced the signing of quarterback Brett Rypien to their practice squad, as well as the signing of offensive lineman Trevor Reid.
Rypien spent the regular season on Minnesota's 53-man roster after joining the Vikings just before September. He was placed on waivers and cleared them this week, enabling Minnesota to sign him to the practice squad.
As part of placing Rypien, who has quarterbacked Minnesota's scout team at practices, on waivers, the Vikings signed veteran Daniel Jones from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Reid is joining the Vikings from the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders, where he was the team's nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie in 2024. He started all 18 regular-season games, as well as the Western Semi-Final.
Reid originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eales following the 2023 NFL Draft out of Louisville. After being waived by the Eagles in August of 2023, Reid signed with the Atlanta Falcons, spending two weeks with the team before being waived during final roster cutdowns. A native of Griffin, Georgia, Reid played 33 games, including 24 starts, in three seasons at Louisville (2020-22), after spending the first two years of his college career at the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville.
He is not eligible to play during the postseason but will be in line to join the team for the 2025 offseason program this spring.
Vikings open Taimani's practice window
Later Thursday, the Vikings also announced they had designated rookie defensive lineman Taki Taimani for return from Injured Reserve.
Taimani returned to practice Thursday. He has appeared in seven games this season, fielding 70 snaps on defense and 34 on special teams.
