EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Wednesday announced they have signed rookie outside linebacker Benton Whitley from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, Whitley originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams earlier this year.
He was waived in late August and signed as a member of the Chiefs practice squad.
Whitley, 23, played collegiately at Holy Cross from 2017-21, earning First-Team All-Patriot League honors in his final three seasons as a defensive end. The 2020 season was shortened and played in spring 2021 because of COVID-19.
The native of Springfield, Massachusetts, appeared in 42 games, recording 111 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, two passes defended and one forced fumble for the Crusaders.
