3 Vikings at Lions Stats That Stood Out

The Vikings suffered their second loss on the final play of the game to the Lions this season, falling 16-13 on Thanksgiving.

Here are three stats that stood out:

10 yards gained on four third downs in the fourth quarter

The Vikings netted just 10 yards and converted only 1-for-4 on third downs in the fourth quarter.

The Lions netted 46 yards on third downs in the fourth quarter, getting 51.1 percent of their 90 net yards gained in the second half on such downs.

Minnesota gained 6 on a third-and-16 that was created after a chop block penalty. The Vikings moved the chains with a 2-yard gain on third-and-1 on their next possession but followed with a delay of game penalty and had to punt five snaps later after getting 2 yards on a third-and-3.

A successful conversion of third-and-2 with under a minute remaining was negated by an illegal formation penalty, setting up a third-and-7 on which Sam Bradford was intercepted.

30 rushing yards for Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford finished with 30 rushing yards even after taking a loss of 2 to kneel the ball. It was only the sixth time in 104 games that Stafford had at least 30 yards rushing but third time this season.

Stafford had 17 rushing yards on two carries in the first half, equaling the Vikings production on seven rush attempts. The first rush by Stafford was a 6-yarder on second-and-9 from the Minnesota 16, and Detroit scored its only touchdown two plays later.

Stafford also converted a third-and-10 with a scramble in the second quarter on a drive that ended with a punt. Although the Vikings defense responded on the next three plays, the Lions were able to pin the Vikings at their own 12, force a three-and-out and then get a field goal on their following possession.

Stafford also scrambled for a gain of 15 in the fourth quarter to convert a third-and-15. Even though that possession also resulted in a punt, the play helped swing momentum away from the Vikings after they had just taken a 13-10 lead.

6 points for Detroit on five first downs in the second half

The Vikings defense clamped down on the Lions in the second half. After allowing six first downs during Detroit's opening possession, Minnesota limited the Lions to five total first downs in the second half and just one in the third quarter when Detroit only had the football for 3:58.

The Lions, however, were able to get into field goal range once on offense to tie the game and took over at the Vikings 20-yard line after the pick.
