EAGAN, Minn. – When Minnesota hosts Jacksonville at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, the Vikings will be using their feet to promote causes close to their hearts.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has limited the in-person appearances and community events players have been able to participate in this year, nearly the entire team is making an impact through the NFL's annual My Cause My Cleats campaign.
Players will don custom-designed cleats that recently were unveiled to the athletes. The footwear is painted to represent respective causes the players have chosen to raise awareness and support for.
Among the organizations represented this season are some of the players' personal foundations or charities, including Raise the Barr Foundation and Thielen Foundation.
Vikings RB Dalvin Cook and LB Eric Kendricks unboxed their custom cleats that they'll wear during the Jaguars game for the 2020 'My Cause, My Cleats' campaign.
Other players are again shining light on organizations close to their heart: Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (Harrison Smith), University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital (Kyle Rudolph), Boys & Girls Clubs (Kirk Cousins) and the Minnesota Vikings Foundation (Dalvin Cook), among others.
Eric Kendricks, whose cleats represent All Square, spoke with Twin Cities media members Wednesday and expressed appreciation for the unique platform to raise awareness.
"It gives everybody an opportunity to showcase a cause they're working for, and they get to do it in a cool way with the cleats," Kendricks said. "I saw some really cool cleats in the locker room today. It gets everybody interested and gets more involvement.
"I suggest to the fans, find some of your favorite players or maybe some of the favorite cleats you find and look a little bit more into the organizations they represent," he added.
