The on-field workouts featured a fresh twist on Sunday when several athletes were grouped into a new positional group, "edge rushers," for the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine.
Sometimes unofficially referred to as "hybrids" in the past, the category is a method of differentiating players on the verge of being defensive ends in a 4-3 or outside linebackers in a 3-4, a defensive front that has increased in prevalence in the NFL.
The Vikings still utilize a 4-3, but they also have enjoyed pass-rush abilities of linebackers Anthony Barr and blitzed with Eric Kendricks under the direction of Mike Zimmer.
