Vikings Postgame Report: The Minnesota Vikings Defeat The Raiders 24-23 in Week 1 of the 2024 Preseason
Welcome to the Vikings Postgame Report. The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Las Vegas Raiders at U.S. Bank Stadium on Saturday night in week 1 of the 2024 preseason. The Vikings received the opening kick and started the game with quarterback Sam Darnold under center for the first drive of the game. Darnold went 4-for-8 for 59 passing yards before heading to the sidelines. Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy came in and played for almost a half of the Vikings total offensive game time. He finished his debut 11-of-17 passing for 188 yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and an interception. The interception happened early in the game for him, but he finished strong, throwing touchdowns to both Trishton Jackson and Trent Sherfield Sr. Trishton had the high receiving yardage for the game with 4 receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Kene Nwangwu ripped off a 48-yard touchdown and finished the game with 52 total yards rushing. Defensively, Theo Jackson led the team with 7 tackles, while Brian Asamoah II chipped in with 6 tackles and a half sack of his own. Levi Drake Rodriguez, Dallas Turner, and Bo Richter recorded their first NFL sacks, while James Lynch added in a half sack also. Rookie Will Reichard kicked 3 extra points, went 1-of-2 on field goals, including the game winning kick to seal the victory for the Vikings. Up next, the Vikings head to Cleveland to face the Browns in Week 2 of the Preseason on Saturday, August 17th at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
